The two locations in clear view on the west and north sides are quick to catch tourists. But locals also flock for the burgers named after the state’s 14,000-foot peaks. Another cornerstone of the menu is the animal at the heart of state history: bison, featured in queso, chili, meatloaf and Bolognese. 600 S. 21st St., Suite 180; 1110 Interquest Parkway

Just as Alice wandered down the rabbit hole, so couples wander down a staircase to this underground restaurant perfect for a date night over cocktails and small bites. Bronze (TIE): Black Forest Bistro and The Local Table
The restaurants are on opposite sides of town and take two different approaches. Black Forest Bistro is on the finer side, while The Local Table aims to be a shared, casual space for the people of Security-Widefield. How they are similar: in the way people leave full. Our recommendation: Restaurant 1858
Seven Falls is sold as Colorado’s “Grandest Mile of Scenery.” And at the base of the waterfall is a grand restaurant to match — one of Colorado’s most memorable dining experiences showcasing some of the state’s proudest ingredients, much of it raised and grown by The Broadmoor. sevenfalls.com/restaurant-1858
