TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Championship Wrestling Federation held the Rose City Rumble on Saturday at the Mosaic District in Tyler. Admission was free, and every donation goes to the East Texas Food Bank.
CWF founder Mark Vaughn of Tyler launched the promotion at True Vine in May.
“Tyler is a growing city and we want to bring the biggest and best sports property that we can,” Vaughn said.
Talent and partnerships
Vaughn said CWF has partnered with the WWE ID program.
“We’ve partnered with the WWE ID program, so we have access to the best talent available on the independent scene,” Vaughn said. “And we have stars from Lucha Libre triple-A. So we have the best luchadors from Mexico that work for us. So it’s only the best wrestlers here at CWF.”
Shreveport native Landon Guerrero is among the wrestlers.
“It’s been a family passion of mine ever since, starting from my grandfather to my dad and now to me,” Guerrero said. “But I’m the only one that’s actually set foot in the ring and become a wrestler.”
Partnership with East Texas Food Bank
“We’re all about the community,” Vaughn said. “And so we’ve partnered and tag teamed with the East Texas Food Bank. And so they’re our partner with what we do through the community.”
Guerrero competed in the Rose City Rumble for a shot at the CWF Heavyweight Championship. He said using wrestling to support the East Texas Food Bank makes stepping into the ring more meaningful.
“Change starts with small steps,” Guerrero said. “And so it’s hard to change, East Texas in general or the state of Texas if you don’t start in your own community. You got to start in your own community and then build a strong foundation and then you can start expanding onward. So I think that’s why it’s such a big deal for us to be able to start in this community and then expand onward.”
What’s next
Vaughn plans to expand shows across East and West Texas, including Denton through a partnership with the University of North Texas, and into Central and North Texas.
CWF wrestlers will hold a Día de los Muertos match in downtown Tyler on Sunday. The event features stars from Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. It begins at 5 p.m., and admission is free.
