Depends on the nursery! Obviously big box stores don’t care
This is why we start seeds at home! I can’t wait to be at the nursery this weekend and scoffing at all the pepper seedlings and constantly reminding my wife how the ones I grew are so much better lol
That’s a particularly bad specimen from a nursery, I’ve bought some pretty good looking pepper seedlings from various nurseries over the years. I grew a lot of my own seedlings last year but my best looking and most productive plant ended up being a habanero I picked up from Home Depot.
But yeah, nursery seedlings do often go through hell and back before they get to you. Even if great care is taken by the grower, they still have to get transported (and I doubt the trucker gets out of the trucker and waters them), and the nursery/store you buy it at often doesn’t take great care of them either.
