OKC’s Capitol Hill district leaders call for action after shooting leaves 2 dead, 3 injured
A shooting at a restaurant in Oklahoma City left two dead and three injured, prompting calls from local leaders for community-based violence prevention efforts.
OKLAHOMA CITY —
Two people were killed and three others injured in a shooting early Sunday following an argument at a restaurant on Southwest 25th Street in Oklahoma City, police said.
Authorities said 23-year-old Mosses Sandoval shot and killed 20-year-old Adolfo Lopez, who was trying to defuse a fight, before Sandoval was fatally shot by another person.
State Rep. Sam Wargin-Grimaldo, who lives in the Capitol Hill district where the incident occurred, offered his condolences and called for action to prevent future violence.
“Two young men lost their lives through gun violence is incredibly unfortunate,” Wargin-Grimaldo said. “My first thoughts were to the victims of this tragedy.”
Wargin-Grimaldo, who has worked to transform the Capitol Hill area into a welcoming destination, said the shooting was an isolated incident, but he also said it serves as a wake-up call.
“We want to make sure there is a community response. I think a community violence intervention program is something to look into,” he said.

Community leaders also shared the grief they feel for their neighbors.
Zeke Gonzalez, founder of 151 Community Boxing Gym, said one of the victims was part of the local lowrider community.
“I’ve been lowriding my whole life, and that’s something that hit home for us because he was a part of the lowriding community, and that’s why it hurts,” Gonzalez said.
Despite the heartbreak, Wargin-Grimaldo said the focus should remain on supporting local businesses, improving safety and investing in youth programs to move the community forward.
“I think it’s important we have more businesses that create more of a walking consumer base that way people are around here more often. I think the more we do that, we’ll be able to get to that end goal,” he said.
Oklahoma City police said no arrests have been made as investigators continue interviewing those involved.
