The magazine also highlighted the restaurant’s wedge salad, which puts a twist on the diner staple with youtiao croutons, lap cheong and ginger scallion ranch.
Owners Nick Wong and Lisa Lee named Agnes and Sherman after Wong’s parents. The restaurant’s food and design draw inspiration from the pair’s third-culture upbringing while incorporating elements of the classic American diner.
That combination helped the Houston spot stand out to Bon Appétit’s editors, who said this year’s selections focused on restaurants with distinct perspectives and chefs willing to take risks.
Agnes and Sherman was the only Houston restaurant included among the 19 restaurants on the 2026 list.
