I’m a native Brooklynite, so when I saw Di Fara frozen pizza appear at Target earlier this year, I picked one up immediately. I discovered that this frozen pizza has a crisp crust and standout sauce that’s almost as good as what’s served in the original shop, so it’s well worth the $9.99 price tag. Now this “Brooklyn legend” is the only brand in my freezer, and the vodka pizza always disappears first.

Why I Love Di Fara Frozen Pizzas
I was excited to see pizza from a New York icon in the freezer aisle. I have fond memories of visiting the shop and watching Di Fara’s late founder Dom DeMarco carefully assemble pizzas behind the counter. But could a frozen pie taste as good as the real thing? While these will never beat the in-store experience, they’re as close as you can get for under $10.
The first thing that stood out was how balanced the flavors are. The tomato sauce has just the right mix of sweetness and tang, the cubes of mozzarella melt evenly without getting gummy, and there’s a very generous scattering of basil leaves (not the sad single herb that graces most frozen pizzas).
For me, the crust is what really sets these pizzas apart. After baking according to the package directions, the edges came out beautifully blistered with just enough char to mimic a fresh pie. Not only does the crust have a pleasant chewiness, but it gets a slight tangy flavor from durum wheat sourdough.
The DiFara lineup currently includes four flavors: margherita, pepperoni, three meat, and vodka. My family enjoyed all of them, but the vodka pizza wound up being the biggest surprise. I recently served the pies when friends came over, and it disappeared before any of the others. The creamy vodka sauce makes it feel more special than your average frozen pizza. Ironically, it’s the only flavor that Di Fara doesn’t serve at its Brooklyn storefront.
Di Fara pies have earned a permanent spot in our family’s pizza rotation. We still keep everyone’s favorite pies on hand, but when I’m the one choosing dinner, this is usually the box I reach for—it’s the closest I’ve come to finding a frozen pizza that reminds me of the neighborhood pizzerias I grew up with.
